Every log store and bin store on this page is made to order from our workshop in the Derbyshire Dales, and built heavier than the flat-pack versions you'll find elsewhere. The log store comes in three widths, with a raised slatted floor, overlap-clad sides and a slatted sloping roof to keep firewood dry while it seasons. The bin store takes one to four wheelie bins, with a slate-tiled roof, gas-strut lids and an optional extra bay for logs, parcels or recycling. Log stores start from £495 and bin stores from £625, delivery to the UK mainland is included, and the structure is covered by our 15 Year Warranty. Need a size we don't list? Two stores, built the same way
Both are made to order in our workshop with heavy-duty ironmongery and proper joinery, not the light panels and hardware of a flat-pack kit.
Heavy-duty log storeBraced frame, overlap cladding, raised slatted floor and slatted sloping roof. Three widths; flat-packed or fully assembled750–1500mm wide · from £495
Wooden wheelie bin storeSlate-tiled roof, gas-strut lids, corner door stops. For 1 to 4 bins, with an optional extra bay for logs, parcels or recycling1–4 bins · from £625
What size log store do I need?
All three are 850mm deep and 1500mm high, so they sit together as a matching pair or trio. Capacities are approximate and assume the logs are stacked, not tipped in.
| Size | Width | Holds about |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 750mm | 0.4m³ — a winter of weekend fires beside the back door |
| Medium | 1150mm | 0.65m³ — roughly one bulk bag |
| Large | 1500mm | 0.9m³ — more than a full bulk bag |
As a rough guide, an occasional fire gets through 0.5–1m³ a winter, weekend fires 1–1.5m³, and a stove used for heating every day 2m³ or more. If you burn a lot, two stores side by side let one season while you burn from the other.
How many bins, and will mine fit?
Every bin store is 910mm deep including the lid overhang, and 1390mm high at the back sloping to 1230mm at the front.
| Bins | Overall width |
|---|---|
| 1 bin | 780mm |
| 2 bins | 1520mm |
| 3 bins | 2260mm |
| 4 bins | 3000mm |
| Extra bay (logs, parcels, recycling) | adds 740mm |
Each bay takes a standard UK council wheelie bin, whichever size your council uses. For reference, council bins are roughly 1100mm high; a 140-litre bin is about 500mm wide and 560mm deep, a 240-litre about 585mm wide and 730mm deep, and a 360-litre about 600mm wide and 850mm deep. If you have something non-standard, like a commercial bin or a stack of recycling boxes, send us the measurements and we'll make it to fit.
Why airflow matters more than a sealed box
Logs dry from the air moving through them, not from being shut away. Defra's advice is to store firewood off the ground, under a cover, with open sides so the wind can get through, and to expect natural seasoning to take two summers or more. That's what the log store is built around: the raised slatted floor keeps the stack off wet ground and lets air rise through it, the overlap-clad sides keep driven rain off without sealing the logs in, and the slatted roof vents from above while the slope throws water off the back.
Bought-in logs in England sold in loads under 2m³ have to be certified Ready to Burn, at 20% moisture or less. A good log store keeps them that way; a damp shed undoes it. There's more on this in our blog post on the log store and bin store.
Flat-packed, assembled or installed
Log store. Choose fully assembled, and it arrives ready to fill, or flat-packed with pre-drilled parts, fixings and plain-English instructions. Flat-packed takes around an hour with a drill. It's the same heavy timber either way, not a lightweight panel kit.
Bin store. Not a flat-pack: it arrives as a fully built carcass, and only the doors and lids travel separately, to protect them. They screw into pre-drilled holes, so it's two people and about an hour, with video instructions sent before delivery. Within 150 miles of the workshop we can install it for you, by quote; installation adds about four weeks to the lead time. Either way it needs flat ground, or the doors will need adjusting.
Lead times and delivery
Log stores are made to order and ready in around five working days, with free 2-man delivery to the UK mainland. Bin stores are dispatched in 7–14 days, with delivery to the UK mainland included in the price.
More bins than you used to have?
Since the Simpler Recycling rules came into force in England in March 2026, councils have to collect food and garden waste, paper and card, other recycling and general waste separately, and plenty of households have gained a bin or a caddy. A three- or four-bin store, or the extra bay, keeps the lot in one tidy run instead of lined up along the drive.
Questions people ask
What size log store do I need?
Roughly: 0.5–1m³ for an occasional fire, 1–1.5m³ for regular weekend fires, 2m³ or more if a stove heats the house. Our Small holds about 0.4m³, the Medium about 0.65m³ and the Large about 0.9m³.
How long do logs take to season in a log store?
Freshly cut wood takes a long time: Defra says two summers or more for natural seasoning, with softwood quicker than dense hardwood. Logs bought as Ready to Burn are already dry; the store's job is to keep them that way.
Will my wheelie bins fit?
Yes. Each bay takes a standard UK council wheelie bin, whichever size your council uses. For anything non-standard, send us the measurements and we'll make it to fit.
Is it a flat-pack?
The log store comes either way: fully assembled, or flat-packed with pre-drilled parts that take about an hour. The bin store arrives as a built carcass; only the doors and lids screw on.
Do I need a base?
Both need firm, flat ground: paving, a concrete pad or level hardstanding. The log store's raised slatted floor keeps logs off the ground; on a slope the bin store doors will need adjusting.
Do I need planning permission for a bin store?
Usually not in a back garden. For a front garden, a listed building or a conservation area, check with your council first, as the rules treat it like a small outbuilding.
What does the warranty cover?
The structure of both stores is covered by our 15 Year Warranty. Moving parts like the bin store's gas struts are wearing parts and may need replacing over time.
Can you install it?
We install bin stores within 150 miles of our workshop near Matlock, by quote. It adds about four weeks to the lead time.
Can you make a different size?
Yes: narrower or wider bays, a different number of bins, a log bay on the end. Tell us the space and we'll quote.
How long does delivery take?
Log stores are ready in around five working days; bin stores are dispatched in 7–14 days. Delivery to the UK mainland is included.
