Solid Wood Dining Tables, Handmade in Derbyshire

Order by Saturday 21 November for delivery before Christmas.

Every table on this page is made to order from our workshop in the Derbyshire Dales. The five designs share the same 45mm Scandinavian redwood top, in Clear, Walnut finish, Smoked Oak finish or Belgian Grey. The legs are available in forged steel, hairpin or solid timber, with four lengths from 150 to 240cm seating 4 to 12, and benches to match. The Lathkill starts at 120cm for smaller rooms, and prices start from £510. We manufacture in 3–4 weeks and deliver free with a 2-man team to the room of your choice. All come with a 15 Year Warranty. Need a size we don't list? Design your own in 3D here.

Which size dining table do I need?

Allow about 60cm of table edge per person, and 90cm of clear floor around the table so chairs can pull out. Every table in the range comes in the same four lengths, all 85cm wide and 75cm high, with a matching bench 10cm shorter than the table.

10–12240 × 85 × 75cm230cm

The Lathkill also comes at 120cm for a smaller kitchen. For anything between sizes, wider, or up to 3 metres long, design your own table and see the price as you go.

Pine, oak or walnut?

The tops on the five main tables are 45mm solid Scandinavian redwood, a slow-grown pine that is dense, straight-grained and easy to live with. It is a softwood, so it will pick up the odd mark over the years where an oak top wouldn't, but a mark on a hard-wax-oiled top can be sanded back and re-oiled on the spot rather than the whole table being refinished. It also costs a lot less than hardwood, which is why a solid 45mm top of this size starts at £510 rather than £2,000.

If you'd rather have hardwood, the table builder makes the same designs with a solid oak or American black walnut top, priced as you configure it.

Four finishes

Every top is finished in hard wax oil in one of four colours. Clear keeps the pale, natural look of the redwood. Walnut finish takes it to a deep brown, the dark wood table of the range. Smoked Oak finish is a medium, slightly grey-brown oak colour. Belgian Grey is a soft grey with the grain showing through. The names describe the colour: all four are the same solid redwood underneath. Steel legs come in black, clear-coated raw steel or white on most of the range, and brass on the Lathkill. If you want to see the colours before you order, the £5 sample pack has a 10cm piece of each, and the £5 comes off your table.

Reclaimed tables and the breakfast bar

Alongside the redwood range we still make our reclaimed timber tables on steel legs, in trapezium, diamond and inward-angled styles, and a bar-height breakfast bar set on 40mm reclaimed boards. Each one is made to order like the rest, so sizes can be changed on request.

Made to order in Derbyshire

Nothing here is held in a warehouse. Your table is built after you order, in our workshop at Tansley near Matlock, and takes 3–4 weeks. It is delivered free across the UK mainland by a 2-man team who carry it to the room you choose. The legs come off for the journey and bolt back on into threaded inserts in about ten minutes. Every table comes with a 15 Year Warranty. Want to see one first? You are welcome to visit the workshop; just call or WhatsApp so we can set it up.

Questions people ask

What size dining table do I need for 6 people?

A 180cm table seats six comfortably, with room for eight at a push: three down each side, or two on a bench each side plus one at each end. For six every day with space to spare, go to 210cm. Each 30cm of length adds a place.

Is pine good for a dining table?

Yes, if it is the right pine and thick enough. Ours is 45mm slow-grown Scandinavian redwood, which is dense and stable. It is softer than oak, so it will mark more easily, but a hard-wax-oiled top can be sanded back and re-oiled where the mark is.

What is the best wood for a dining table?

Oak and walnut are the hardest-wearing and the most expensive. Redwood pine is softer but far cheaper, and easier to repair. If you want hardwood, we make the same designs in solid oak or American black walnut through the table builder.

How much should a solid wood dining table cost?

Ours start at £510 for a 120cm Lathkill and run to about £1,000 for a 240cm table on a steel base, with benches from £160. Solid oak or walnut tops cost more and are priced in the table builder. Delivery is free.

Are your tables solid wood or veneer?

Solid wood all the way through. The tops are 45mm solid Scandinavian redwood boards; there is no veneer, MDF or chipboard anywhere.

Can I have a different size?

Yes. Use the table builder to set any length up to 3 metres and any width, choose your top and legs, and see the price straight away. For anything it doesn't cover, call us on 01629 343350.

Do you make extendable dining tables?

Not at the moment. All our tables are a fixed length. If you host big dinners, choose the next size up, or design a longer table up to 3 metres.

How long does a dining table take?

Every table is made to order and takes 3–4 weeks, then delivered free by a 2-man team. Order by Saturday 21 November for delivery before Christmas.

Does the table arrive assembled?

The legs come off for delivery and bolt back on into threaded inserts in the top. It takes about ten minutes and two people to turn the table over. The delivery team carries everything to the room you choose.

Do the benches fit under the table?

It depends on the legs. The Monsal's spider base has nothing for a bench to stop against, so its benches slide all the way under. On the other tables the bench tucks in under the overhang and sits a little proud of the edge. Each product page shows the exact clearance for that design, and a shorter slide-under bench is available on request at the same price.

How do I look after it?

Wipe it down with a damp cloth and dry it; avoid harsh cleaners and leaving water to stand. A hard wax oil finish can be touched up where it is marked, so a scratch or ring is sanded back and re-oiled rather than the whole top being refinished.

What does the 15 Year Warranty cover?

Every table comes with our 15 Year Warranty. The details are on the guarantee page.

Do you work with trade customers?

Yes. We make tables for cafés, restaurants, hotels and interior designers, from one table to a full fit-out. See trade and commercial or get in touch.
