Our Winter Dining Range: Five Solid Wood Tables Named After the Peak District
Five solid wood dining tables, each named after a place in the Peak District, made to order in our Derbyshire workshop.
Through the summer our workshop is mostly planters and garden tables. As the evenings draw in, everyone moves back indoors, and the table you gather round matters more than any other piece of furniture in the house. So this autumn we've refreshed our indoor range, starting with the dining table.
There are five of them. They share the same solid top, the same three finishes and the same matching benches, each one standing on a different base. Each is named after a place in the Peak District, a short drive from our workshop in Matlock.
Where they've come from
We don't only make furniture for homes. Through our commercial arm, Foundry Studio, we make tables for restaurants, bars and offices across the UK, all in the same Derbyshire workshop. Those tables have to take far more than a family kitchen ever will, and they've taught us what makes a dining table last: a thick, solid top, a heavy steel base that doesn't move when someone leans on the end, and a finish you can repair rather than replace.
That's what the new range is built on. Every top is 45mm solid Scandinavian redwood, the pine most British joinery is made from, glued up from full-length boards, planed flat and sanded by hand. There's no veneer and no board, just solid timber all the way through. We finish each one in hard wax oil rather than lacquer, so it feels like wood, wipes clean, and if it does get marked you can sand it out and re-oil it at home.
Why the names
We wanted names that meant something to us, rather than numbers in a catalogue. The Peak is on our doorstep, and each of these places seemed to suit its table.
Monsal

Named after Monsal Dale and the Headstone Viaduct that strides across it. Forged steel and a long span: it felt right for the flagship. The Monsal stands on solid 80 × 80mm steel legs, forged in the UK and splayed out from a central spine. There's no stretcher bar, so nothing near your feet, and the benches slide all the way underneath when you're not using them. It's the sturdiest base we make. 150 to 240cm, seating four to twelve, from £870.
Stanage
Stanage Edge is one long, straight line of gritstone above Hathersage. The Stanage is our straight-talking table: a steel X-frame at each end, no stretcher bar, and clear legroom from one end to the other. Legs in black, white or clear-coated raw steel. 150 to 240cm, from £750.
Dovedale

In Dovedale the River Dove runs between limestone hills and you cross it on stepping stones. The Dovedale is the lightest-looking table in the range: a table and bench set on slim U-frame steel legs, and the most Scandinavian of the five. In the Clear finish it's pale and calm. 150 to 240cm, from £720 for the table.
Hartington

Hartington is a stone village in the White Peak, solid and plain-spoken. The Hartington is the all-timber table in the range: chunky solid redwood X legs, and no metal on show anywhere. 150 to 240cm, from £750.
Lathkill

Lathkill Dale has a slender, clear river running through it: light and fine, like the legs on this table. The Lathkill is our mid-century table, on slim hairpin legs in black, white, clear-coated raw steel or brass. It's the one for smaller rooms, and the only table in the range that comes in 120cm, a proper table for four. 120 to 210cm, from £510.
What all five share
- The top: 45mm solid Scandinavian redwood (pine), finished by hand in hard wax oil.
- Three finishes: Clear (the pale, natural pine), Smoked Oak finish (a medium oak colour) and Walnut finish (a deep, dark brown).
- Matching benches: one or two, 10cm shorter than the table, in the same finish.
- Made to order in our Derbyshire workshop, usually in three to four weeks. Nothing is imported or outsourced.
- Free 2-man delivery to the UK mainland (excluding the Highlands and islands), carried to the room you choose. The legs bolt into the underside of the top in about ten minutes.
- 15 Year Warranty on every table.
Not sure about colour? Our finish sample pack is three 10 × 10cm offcuts of the real redwood, one in each finish, for £5. Hold them up against your floor and walls, and we'll refund the £5 when you order your table.
Or design your own
If none of the standard sizes fits your room, you can build your own on our bespoke dining tables page. Type in the length and width to the centimetre, anything from 100 to 300cm long and 60 to 120cm wide, choose the top and the legs, add benches, and turn the table round in 3D to see it from every side. The price updates as you go, and when it looks right it goes straight in your basket.
As well as redwood in our three finishes, you can choose a 45mm top in solid European oak or American black walnut, oiled rather than stained, so the colour is the timber itself. There are seven leg styles in black, white or clear-coated steel, or a custom RAL colour. Bigger than three metres, round, or a leg you've seen somewhere else? Send us a message from the same page and we'll talk it through.
In time for Christmas
Every table is made to order, so order by Saturday 21 November for delivery before Christmas. That goes for bespoke tables too, oak and walnut included. After that we'll still make yours, we just can't promise it before the big day.
