chunky-wooden-dining-table-x-legs
Hartington Chunky Wooden Dining Table – Solid Redwood Top, Wooden X Legs

Chunky Wooden Dining Table with X Legs

A chunky wooden dining table that is wood all the way down: a 45mm solid Scandinavian redwood top on a pair of solid redwood X legs, finished in the same colour, so there is no steel on show anywhere. It is the trestle-style, cross-leg table people picture when they think of a farmhouse kitchen, made clean and square rather than distressed. Four sizes from 150cm to 240cm, seating four to twelve, with matching benches.

The X legs are cut from the same thick redwood as the top and sit 160mm in from each end, which leaves room for a chair at the head. Being timber, they are warm to the touch, quiet on a hard floor and take the same hard wax oil as the top, so the table ages as one piece.

Sizes and seating

Seats

Table (L x W x H)

Bench (L x D x H)

4–6

150 x 85 x 75cm

140 x 35 x 45cm

6–8

180 x 85 x 75cm

170 x 35 x 45cm

8–10

210 x 85 x 75cm

200 x 35 x 45cm

10–12

240 x 85 x 75cm

230 x 35 x 45cm

All sizes are 85cm wide and 75cm high. Each bench is 10cm shorter than the table, 35cm deep and 45cm high, and finished in the same colour, so a 180cm table takes a 170cm bench that seats three comfortably. Allow about 60cm of table edge per person.

Is the top solid wood?

Yes — 45mm solid Scandinavian redwood all the way through. No veneer, no board, no filler.

Do the benches slide under the table?

Part-way. The legs sit at the ends of the table, so a standard bench — 10cm shorter than the table — tucks in under the overhang rather than disappearing underneath; it takes up about 35cm alongside. If you would rather have benches that slide fully under between the legs, we will make them shorter at no extra cost (each seats one fewer person). Just reply to your order confirmation with “I'd like the benches to slide underneath”, or call us on 01629 343350.

Is pine softer than oak?

Yes. Scandinavian redwood is a softwood, so a dropped pan or a heavy knock will leave a mark where oak might not — the trade-off is a 45mm solid top at well under the price of oak. Because the finish is hard wax oil, a mark can be sanded out and re-oiled at home. If you would rather have the same table with a solid oak or American black walnut top, configure it on our bespoke page — same sizes, your choice of legs, priced instantly.

Can I have a different size?

Yes. Anything from 100 to 300cm long and 60 to 120cm wide can be priced instantly on our bespoke dining table page, in redwood, solid oak or American black walnut.

Does it need assembling?

A little. The table arrives in pieces — the top, the legs and a bag of bolts — which keeps it safe in transit and gets it through any doorway and up any stairs. The 2-man delivery team carries everything to the room you choose; you then bolt the legs into the threaded inserts in the underside of the top. About ten minutes with an Allen key (not included) — no drilling.

How do I look after the finish?

Wipe with a damp cloth. Every year or two, rub in a little hard wax oil. Scratches and ring marks can be sanded locally and re-oiled — the finish repairs invisibly, which lacquer cannot.

Is this a pine dining table?

Yes. Scandinavian redwood is the trade name for slow-grown Nordic pine — denser and straighter than the pine in most flat-pack furniture, and at 45mm thick it is a solid pine dining table in the proper sense.

Timber Foundry
Clear / 4–6 Seater · L150 x W85 x H75cm / Table
